When A Dream Becomes A Business

The idea for Basket Kase was literally dreamt by Schubert, a retired flight attendant and co-owner of the company. "In my dream, I named the company, picked out my partner, and came up with the business plan and many marketing ideas.”

She called Kathy Donnel, a former teacher, who had 16 years experience designing and creating theme baskets for Hospice and other nonprofit organizations, and told her about the dream. "I felt somewhat awkward calling her," Schubert says, but instead she found a very receptive listener. As Donnel states, "My children are grown, and I had wanted to do something like this for years. I am excited about our company and only wish I had done it years ago!"

Schubert knows that it is smart business to help companies stand apart from their competition. The health and managed care industries are a natural fit for the company. "Both involve people with changes in their lives, and they need to feel as though they are thought about and appreciated." Donnel eyes the hotel business. She explains, "When guests first arrive from out of town for weddings and other events, what could be nicer than a gift basket welcoming them, thanking them for being there and containing such items as town maps and details of upcoming events?"

The entrepreneurs see baskets as a means for companies to thank current clients and employees. "We love to work with corporations and individuals who believe in giving back to those who have helped them become successful. When you give, it comes back to you tenfold."
